Saint-Philippe-de-Néri

The first pioneers arrived in the area around 1790, which was then known as Côte-des-Beaux-Biens. Advantageously located between the St. Lawrence River and the mountains, Saint-Philippe-de-Néri is historically set at the crossroad of the evolution of the Kamouraska main trade and transportation routes. As with many communities, the railroad cuts through the territory, reminding us that the Grand Tronc Railroad arrived there around 1860. You can even still see on Route de la Station a few old houses oriented perpendicularly to the sun. Equally interesting to the west are magnificent cross-country skiing trails sheltered from the wind by rocky ridges. Agriculture and various shops and industries bring many jobs to the area, including the biomass-heated Avantis Coop Mill rising high in the southern part of the village. Do not miss the magnificent presbytery restored as a library which bears the name of Claude Béchard in honour of this son of Kamouraska born in Saint-Philippe-de-Néri.
